Another popular version of poker is a card game called poque. According to Joseph Cowell, this game was first played in the US in 1829. While the exact origin of poque is uncertain, it is believed that it originated in Europe. When it was introduced to the United States, it was played by French settlers.
Typical poker games award the pot to the best hand. For example, a pair of aces beats a straight flush. An Ace can be treated as a low card in some games, such as Texas Hold’em.
